Welcome!

Hello Students and Parents,

I am excited to be working with your child this school year in the first grade!  If I have not met you personally, I welcome you to call the school (416-8900) and set up a time for us to meet. Strong communication between teachers and parents is vital for student success.

I wanted to go ahead and give you an important date to add to your calendar. On August 24th, our school will host Curriculum Night. During this time I will discuss classroom expectations, academic curriculum, and things you can do to help your child at home. Sign-up sheets will also be available for you to volunteer to assist in our classroom. I hope to see you there!

Beginning next week, your child will have a special communication homework binder that he/she will bring to school every day. In the binder, you will find our weekly homework schedule, your child’s behavior chart, a reading log (to record any books that your child may read from home), word lists, and other important information. The behavior chart will need to be signed each night. Every Wednesday I send home graded papers in a green folder for you to review, sign, and return to me each Thursday.

Please know that I am here to support you in any way that I can. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at johnsona9@scsk12.org. I look forward to getting to know you and your family this year!

Moon Phases

We concluded our study of the moon phases by creating each phase out of Oreos. Very impressed with our little artists!

Grinch Party!

We celebrated a different holidays all over the world throughout the month of December. To end our holiday celebration study, we celebrated with a "Grinch" themed party, where all of decorations and food were green-- just like the GRINCH!

Christmas Program

We have the two BEST music teachers in Shelby County Schools, Mrs. Miller and Ms. Blackard! They worked so hard to create such a special program that showcased all the many talents of our students! The first graders put on quite a show! :)

Landscape Day!

We are so grateful for parents who help keep our school grounds beautiful! Another successful Landscape Day in the books! Be on the lookout for our next Landscape day in March!
